Risen Power Electric was absolutely amazing! I will definitely be using them in the future, and recommending to my family and friends! 5 stars!!⭐️ Thank you so much, Keith!
Keith and his assistant did an absolute wonderful job of inspecting, repairing and explaining several electrical issues we had with our home. I would and have recommended them to our friends that want excellent work from a true professional and a very fair price. Mary & Kevin Spiwak
We had a great experience with Keith. He told us what day and time to expect him and he was on time. They installed two new outdoor outlets for us and investigated a sprinkler pump issue which turned out to be a pump issue and not electrical. They cleaned up after they were done. He provided a quote up front and stuck to that quote exactly. We would definitely use them again.
Absolutely the best electrician I have ever dealt with. He was professional and stepped in when another electrician didn't finish the job. We were displaced for a week and a half before he stepped in. He got us back in our home in under three days. I can't say enough about him. I'll be giving his card to everyone I know. My family is Truly grateful for everything he's done. If you're looking for an electrician he's your guy. He does everything to code and he goes above and beyond in everything he does.
Best electrician, he explains good. He works very well and very nice person couldn’t have for a better Electrician, then Keith, I would definitely use him again he did a nice job thank you Keith you’re the best
Keith is a very polite and professional electrician. He applied every applicable business standard regarding my issue. He came out to inspect the problem and gave me a detail estimate. After I received, reviewed, and agreed to his estimate, he was out here to correct the problem a day or two later. He even came out after his normal 8-hour work day. He completed the job the same day. I highly recommend him for any electrical job and I intend to use him again.
Very professional. Came out on a Sunday morning. Figured out the issue and had it fixed in no time. Fees were very reasonable. Will definitely call for any electrical issues again.
This team was so professional, doing the job exactly to my specifications. Cleaned up after themselves and charged a fair price. I will use them again!
Keith will do you right! Prices are incomparable, he’s honest and trustworthy! I refer all my clients to Keith. Best around hands down!
Keith did a great job and was very affordable. I definitely recommend this company
I had an amazing experience working with Risen Power Electric. I was in a tough spot and needed a last-minute electrical fix, and the owner Keith Cotton personally stepped in and saved the day. Keith was professional, responsive, and clearly takes pride in doing things the right way. It’s rare to find someone with that level of integrity and work ethic these days. He handled the issue quickly, knew exactly what he was doing, and made the whole process smooth and stress-free. If you’re looking for an electrician you can trust, I would 100% recommend Risen Power Electric. Great company, great service, and a great owner behind it.
Truly couldn’t ask for a more precise, professional electrician! Thanks Keith!
Awesome people !! Always does the work with the most integrity!! For all your electrical needs big or small !
Mr Cotton responded immediately to get us a complete estimate on the work we needed done. On the day of service Mr Cotton and his apprentice arrived exactly when they said they would be here and completed the job quickly and efficiently. There was even an extra repair we forgot to inquire about and they immediately fixed it as they had all of the items needed on hand. Very professional, quick and even loved having our dogs follow them around. Highly recommended for any electrical needs.
Keith is the absolute best. He shows when scheduled, understands the value of communication and acts accordingly, and if it has to do with electricity, he knows how to fix it. He’s worked for us at odd hours, sometimes long hours, and if you’re a client of his and you call, Keith will get there ASAP. He stands out (LIKE NEON) in the current dystopian, upside-down world we’re all trying to slush through. Nowadays, when what use to be the exception is more likely to be the rule- Keith is that outlier exception that does what he says and does it right. And, as if that isn’t more than enough reason to quit scrolling through Marketplace electricians and put Keith on speed dial, he’s a genuinely nice man. The world would be better off if there were more Keith’s in it! Quit looking and just call him, you can thank me later. *I’m not a bot, nor do I play one on the internet. *This is not a paid review.
I would highly recommend Risen Power, great communication, great work,Keith and the crew were very professional and awesome to work with. The project started on time and ended on time.
Excellent communication, work completed professionally, Keith did everything he agreed to. I will use Keith for all future electrical work.
Keith did an amazing job for a fair price. Upon starting the work, there were other issues that arose from shoddy work done by a previous owner or contractor. Keith was able to assess the issues, and, he also had the materials to repair during the same visit. We will definitely use Risen Power for all of our repairs/projects moving forward.
Excellent service and quality work! We’ve used Keith several times and will continue to do so!
The highly detailed review of the job to be done-installing new breaker box, running an 8A line for a new double oven, installing an over the cooktop light, installing 4 new bathroom fans, and more, plus discussing installing a generator for potential power loss- was impressive. The work was done in a professional and timely manner, with outstanding communication. I will definitely use them again.
I’ve had Keith out sever times for many different issues. Light fixture install to a 100 amp electric service that had to be installed underground. He has been a blessing to us. I highly recommend this company.
Professional, reliable, on-time and friendly service. Worth every penny knowing the job is done right and worry free.
Keith and his helpers did a wonderful job on our electrical projects. He showed up on time, cleaned up and kept us informed on all aspects of the job.
Super guy, very reliable, great work and reasonably priced. Highly recommend.
Keith Cotton has helped me out on many different projects of mine. I have known him for years. Very professional. Very kind. If you need electrical help, he is definitely the man to call.

Garage Wiring in Greenville, TX
Garage wiring projects range from simple outlet additions to complete workshop electrical systems. Attached garage wiring usually shares circuits with the main house, with code requirements for GFCI protection on receptacles. Detached garage wiring typically uses dedicated subpanels fed from the main house. Workshop equipment often needs dedicated circuits sized for specific machinery. Risen Power Electric handles all common garage wiring applications. Our team plans installations based on actual customer needs.
Receptacle requirements in garages include GFCI protection on most outlets. Code requires GFCI protection on receptacles serving the garage interior, with limited exceptions for dedicated equipment circuits. The GFCI protection prevents shock hazards in damp garage environments. Whole house GFCI breakers in the panel or local GFCI receptacles both satisfy code requirements. Our team uses appropriate GFCI methods for each installation.
Lighting in garages benefits from modern LED fixtures that provide bright, energy efficient illumination. Older garages often have minimal incandescent or fluorescent lighting that makes detailed work difficult. LED shop lights mounted on ceilings provide excellent general illumination. Task lighting at workbenches supplements general lighting for detailed work. Risen Power Electric installs comprehensive lighting systems that transform dim garages into well lit workshops.
Workshop equipment circuits require careful planning based on specific tool requirements. Welders typically draw 30 to 80 amps depending on capacity. Large air compressors can pull 30 to 50 amps continuously. Table saws, planers, and other large stationary tools have varying amperage requirements. Each major tool benefits from a dedicated circuit sized for actual amperage demand. Our team helps customers plan circuit layouts based on equipment lists and shop layouts.
Detached garage wiring typically uses subpanel installations rather than running individual circuits from the main house. The subpanel provides convenient breaker spaces near the equipment served and simplifies installation through reduced cable runs. Feeder cable from main house to detached garage carries total demand load. The subpanel must include proper grounding electrodes at the detached building. Risen Power Electric handles detached garage subpanel installations regularly.
Garage door opener circuits require dedicated outlets to support proper operation. The outlet should be located near the opener motor for clean installation. Some openers include backup battery features that maintain operation during power outages. Smart openers integrate with home automation systems, requiring data connections beyond basic power. Our team handles all common garage door opener wiring requirements.
EV charging in garages adds significant new electrical demand. Level 2 chargers typically draw 30 to 80 amps continuously, requiring dedicated circuits. Existing garage circuits cannot support EV chargers without upgrades. Our team performs load calculations to determine whether existing service supports new chargers. Panel upgrades or load management equipment may be needed for some installations.
Detached garage uses sometimes evolve over time, requiring additional circuits or capacity upgrades. Initial wiring should support reasonable expansion to avoid early upgrades. Larger initial subpanels provide breaker spaces for future circuit additions. Conduit runs to specific work areas allow easy future wire additions. Risen Power Electric helps customers plan installations with future expansion in mind. Honest discussions about likely future needs prevent costly early upgrades.

Why Electrical Code Matters for Garage Wiring
Electrical code on garage wiring addresses specific safety concerns that arise in these environments. Risen Power Electric follows NEC requirements completely on every garage wiring project. Article 210 covers branch circuit requirements including GFCI protection in garages. Article 250 addresses grounding requirements including specific provisions for detached buildings. Article 215 covers feeders supplying detached garage subpanels. Hiring a Master Electrician means installations meet current code rather than just functioning correctly. Permits with the city of Greenville document the work for future reference. Insurance carriers expect properly installed garage wiring, and unpermitted work can complicate claims after fires or other incidents. Real estate transactions also benefit from documented professional installations. Risen Power Electric is licensed and insured, providing protection on every garage wiring project.
Most Common Garage Wiring Questions
Garage wiring projects raise practical questions for homeowners planning workshop projects or addressing inadequate existing wiring. The answers below address the most common questions we hear during garage wiring consultations across Greenville and surrounding communities.
Garage wiring costs in Greenville vary widely based on scope. Simple projects like adding a few outlets or upgrading lighting typically run $300 to $800. Comprehensive garage wiring projects with multiple circuits, lighting, and equipment outlets can range from $1,500 to $4,000. Detached garage subpanel installations add $1,200 to $2,800 to project costs. Risen Power Electric provides written quotes that itemize each component clearly.
Workshop equipment circuits add to project costs based on specific requirements. Welder circuits typically cost $200 to $500 depending on amperage and cable length. Large air compressor circuits run similar amounts. EV charger installations cost $700 to $2,500 depending on complexity. Each major equipment circuit involves dedicated breaker, conductor, and outlet costs.
Lighting upgrades from old fluorescent to modern LED typically run $200 to $800 for a typical garage. Comprehensive lighting projects with multiple fixtures and switches cost more. The energy savings from LED upgrades often pay back installation costs within several years. Veterans receive a discount on every garage wiring project. The diagnostic fee is waived when we handle the work. Honest pricing without surprises is built into every quote.
Yes, code requires GFCI protection on most garage receptacles. The protection addresses shock hazards in damp garage environments where water and electrical equipment often come together. GFCI breakers in the panel or local GFCI receptacles both satisfy code requirements. Risen Power Electric installs appropriate GFCI protection on all garage circuits.
Some specific exceptions allow non GFCI receptacles in limited situations. Dedicated equipment receptacles for appliances like garage door openers sometimes do not require GFCI protection. The exceptions are narrow and require specific conditions. Our team applies code requirements correctly during installations.
GFCI protection methods affect installation cost and convenience. GFCI breakers in the main panel provide protection for entire circuits with single devices. GFCI receptacles at outlet locations protect themselves and downstream outlets on the same circuit. Either method works correctly when properly installed. Our team helps customers choose appropriate methods based on specific situations and preferences. Honest recommendations consider both code compliance and operational convenience.
Garage circuit requirements depend on planned uses and equipment. Basic garages with simple storage and minimal equipment may function with one or two circuits. Workshops with multiple tools and equipment need more circuits to avoid overload trips. Detached garages typically benefit from subpanel installations that simplify circuit organization.
Code minimums require at least one 20 amp circuit serving garage receptacles. Additional circuits beyond minimum requirements allow practical use of multiple tools simultaneously. A typical workshop benefits from three to six 20 amp circuits serving different work areas. Equipment circuits for major tools add to total circuit count.
Lighting circuits should be separate from receptacle circuits in workshops. This separation allows lights to remain on if receptacle circuits trip during equipment use. Most workshops benefit from two or more lighting circuits to maintain illumination if any single circuit fails. Risen Power Electric helps customers plan circuit layouts based on actual workshop needs. Honest recommendations consider both immediate uses and reasonable future expansion.
Most residential garages can be converted to functional workshops with appropriate electrical upgrades. Workshop conversion typically involves multiple circuits, dedicated equipment connections, comprehensive lighting, and sometimes panel upgrades. The specific requirements depend on planned tools and equipment. Risen Power Electric handles workshop electrical conversions regularly across Hunt County.
Workshop electrical needs vary widely based on planned activities. Light hobby work like model building or basic repairs needs minimal electrical infrastructure. Serious woodworking or metalworking requires substantial electrical capacity for multiple tools. Auto repair shops need lifts, compressed air, welding capacity, and lighting designed for under hood work.
Planning workshop electrical systems benefits from detailed equipment lists and layout discussions. Our team works with customers to understand actual planned uses before recommending electrical solutions. Some workshops grow over time, with additional capacity needed as equipment lists expand. Initial installations should support reasonable future expansion to avoid early upgrades. Veterans receive a discount on every workshop project.
Detached garages benefit significantly from dedicated subpanels rather than running individual circuits from the main house. The subpanel provides convenient breaker spaces near served equipment and simplifies installation. Single feeder cables run more efficiently than multiple branch circuits over distance. Subpanels concentrate troubleshooting and maintenance work in one location.
Smaller detached garages with minimal electrical needs sometimes get adequate service from individual circuits. A simple storage garage with lighting and a few outlets may function with one or two circuits run from the main house. The decision depends on actual electrical needs and distance from the main panel. Long runs typically favor subpanels even for limited loads.
Subpanel requirements include grounding electrodes at the detached building. Two ground rods or alternative electrodes establish the building grounding system. Equipment grounding conductors connect the building grounding back to the main panel. Some detached buildings require service disconnects at the building, separate from the main panel. Risen Power Electric handles all detached garage subpanel requirements correctly. Our team explains code requirements clearly during planning.
Garage wiring project timelines depend on scope. Simple projects like adding a few outlets or upgrading lighting typically take half a day to a full day. Comprehensive garage wiring projects with multiple circuits, lighting, and equipment connections take two to four days. Detached garage subpanel installations add one to two days. Risen Power Electric provides realistic time estimates during initial consultation.
Permit and inspection coordination adds days to overall project timeline. Permit applications typically process within a few days. Inspections happen within a few business days of completion. Total project timeline from quote acceptance to final inspection is usually one to two weeks. Our team handles all permit and inspection coordination as part of every project.
Trenching for underground feeders to detached buildings adds time when applicable. Hand digging is sometimes practical for short runs, while longer runs benefit from trenching equipment. Weather conditions affect outdoor work timing. Honest scheduling commitments mean we communicate any delays clearly. Veterans receive a discount on every garage wiring project.
Texas law allows homeowners to perform some electrical work on their own primary residence, but practical considerations limit reasonable DIY garage wiring. Simple tasks like replacing identical fixtures may be appropriate for handy homeowners. Beyond basic replacements, professional installation typically provides better outcomes.
Several factors make DIY garage wiring risky. Code requirements for GFCI protection, conductor sizing, and grounding can be subtle. Permits and inspections may be required for new circuits and subpanels. Mistakes during DIY wiring can create fire hazards that are not immediately obvious. Insurance considerations affect both DIY and professional work decisions.
Detached garage subpanel installations particularly benefit from professional expertise. Grounding requirements differ from main panel installations and confuse many DIY workers. Feeder sizing involves calculations that affect safety and code compliance. Permits and inspections verify proper installation. Risen Power Electric handles complex situations with appropriate expertise. Our team explains options honestly so customers make informed decisions about DIY versus professional work.
EV chargers can be added to most residential garages with appropriate electrical work. The specific installation depends on charger requirements, garage location, and existing electrical service. Risen Power Electric installs EV chargers in garages regularly across our service area.
Attached garage installations typically run cable from the main panel directly to the charger location. The relatively short cable run keeps material costs reasonable. GFCI protection is generally required for charging circuits. Some charger models have built in GFCI protection that satisfies code requirements without separate devices.
Detached garage installations sometimes work through existing subpanels when subpanel capacity allows. Other situations require new dedicated feeders for the EV charger. Load calculations determine whether existing capacity supports new chargers. Our team performs proper calculations during initial consultation. Honest evaluation prevents installation surprises. Veterans receive a discount on every EV charger project. Call Risen Power Electric for any garage wiring needs.
