Risen Power Electric was absolutely amazing! I will definitely be using them in the future, and recommending to my family and friends! 5 stars!!⭐️ Thank you so much, Keith!
Keith and his assistant did an absolute wonderful job of inspecting, repairing and explaining several electrical issues we had with our home. I would and have recommended them to our friends that want excellent work from a true professional and a very fair price. Mary & Kevin Spiwak
We had a great experience with Keith. He told us what day and time to expect him and he was on time. They installed two new outdoor outlets for us and investigated a sprinkler pump issue which turned out to be a pump issue and not electrical. They cleaned up after they were done. He provided a quote up front and stuck to that quote exactly. We would definitely use them again.
Absolutely the best electrician I have ever dealt with. He was professional and stepped in when another electrician didn't finish the job. We were displaced for a week and a half before he stepped in. He got us back in our home in under three days. I can't say enough about him. I'll be giving his card to everyone I know. My family is Truly grateful for everything he's done. If you're looking for an electrician he's your guy. He does everything to code and he goes above and beyond in everything he does.
Best electrician, he explains good. He works very well and very nice person couldn’t have for a better Electrician, then Keith, I would definitely use him again he did a nice job thank you Keith you’re the best
Keith is a very polite and professional electrician. He applied every applicable business standard regarding my issue. He came out to inspect the problem and gave me a detail estimate. After I received, reviewed, and agreed to his estimate, he was out here to correct the problem a day or two later. He even came out after his normal 8-hour work day. He completed the job the same day. I highly recommend him for any electrical job and I intend to use him again.
Very professional. Came out on a Sunday morning. Figured out the issue and had it fixed in no time. Fees were very reasonable. Will definitely call for any electrical issues again.
This team was so professional, doing the job exactly to my specifications. Cleaned up after themselves and charged a fair price. I will use them again!
Keith will do you right! Prices are incomparable, he’s honest and trustworthy! I refer all my clients to Keith. Best around hands down!
Keith did a great job and was very affordable. I definitely recommend this company
I had an amazing experience working with Risen Power Electric. I was in a tough spot and needed a last-minute electrical fix, and the owner Keith Cotton personally stepped in and saved the day. Keith was professional, responsive, and clearly takes pride in doing things the right way. It’s rare to find someone with that level of integrity and work ethic these days. He handled the issue quickly, knew exactly what he was doing, and made the whole process smooth and stress-free. If you’re looking for an electrician you can trust, I would 100% recommend Risen Power Electric. Great company, great service, and a great owner behind it.
Truly couldn’t ask for a more precise, professional electrician! Thanks Keith!
Awesome people !! Always does the work with the most integrity!! For all your electrical needs big or small !
Mr Cotton responded immediately to get us a complete estimate on the work we needed done. On the day of service Mr Cotton and his apprentice arrived exactly when they said they would be here and completed the job quickly and efficiently. There was even an extra repair we forgot to inquire about and they immediately fixed it as they had all of the items needed on hand. Very professional, quick and even loved having our dogs follow them around. Highly recommended for any electrical needs.
Keith is the absolute best. He shows when scheduled, understands the value of communication and acts accordingly, and if it has to do with electricity, he knows how to fix it. He’s worked for us at odd hours, sometimes long hours, and if you’re a client of his and you call, Keith will get there ASAP. He stands out (LIKE NEON) in the current dystopian, upside-down world we’re all trying to slush through. Nowadays, when what use to be the exception is more likely to be the rule- Keith is that outlier exception that does what he says and does it right. And, as if that isn’t more than enough reason to quit scrolling through Marketplace electricians and put Keith on speed dial, he’s a genuinely nice man. The world would be better off if there were more Keith’s in it! Quit looking and just call him, you can thank me later. *I’m not a bot, nor do I play one on the internet. *This is not a paid review.
I would highly recommend Risen Power, great communication, great work,Keith and the crew were very professional and awesome to work with. The project started on time and ended on time.
Excellent communication, work completed professionally, Keith did everything he agreed to. I will use Keith for all future electrical work.
Keith did an amazing job for a fair price. Upon starting the work, there were other issues that arose from shoddy work done by a previous owner or contractor. Keith was able to assess the issues, and, he also had the materials to repair during the same visit. We will definitely use Risen Power for all of our repairs/projects moving forward.
Excellent service and quality work! We’ve used Keith several times and will continue to do so!
The highly detailed review of the job to be done-installing new breaker box, running an 8A line for a new double oven, installing an over the cooktop light, installing 4 new bathroom fans, and more, plus discussing installing a generator for potential power loss- was impressive. The work was done in a professional and timely manner, with outstanding communication. I will definitely use them again.
I’ve had Keith out sever times for many different issues. Light fixture install to a 100 amp electric service that had to be installed underground. He has been a blessing to us. I highly recommend this company.
Professional, reliable, on-time and friendly service. Worth every penny knowing the job is done right and worry free.
Keith and his helpers did a wonderful job on our electrical projects. He showed up on time, cleaned up and kept us informed on all aspects of the job.
Super guy, very reliable, great work and reasonably priced. Highly recommend.
Keith Cotton has helped me out on many different projects of mine. I have known him for years. Very professional. Very kind. If you need electrical help, he is definitely the man to call.

Electrical Service Upgrade in Greenville, TX
Service upgrades involve more than panel replacement, though many homeowners think of them in those terms. The complete project includes the meter base, service entrance conductors, weatherhead, panel, and grounding system. Each component must be sized for the new service amperage and meet current code requirements. Risen Power Electric handles all aspects of service upgrades as a single coordinated project. Treating the upgrade comprehensively prevents component mismatches that cause problems later.
Load calculation is the starting point for any service upgrade. NEC Article 220 specifies methods for calculating residential service loads, including standard and optional approaches. The calculation considers home square footage, fixed appliances, HVAC equipment, and special loads. Risen Power Electric performs load calculations rather than guessing at appropriate service size. Most modern homes need 200 amp service, while larger homes or those with significant electrical demand benefit from 400 amp service.
Meter base replacement is part of most service upgrades because older meter bases are sized for original service capacity. Upgrading from 100 amp to 200 amp service requires a new meter base rated for the higher amperage. Modern meter bases also include features like surge protection points and properly sized lugs. Our team installs meter bases that meet utility company specifications and current code. Older meter bases sometimes have damage that justifies replacement regardless of capacity changes.
Service entrance conductors carry power from the utility connection to the meter base and main panel. Larger service amperage requires larger conductors to handle the increased current. Upgrading from 100 amp to 200 amp typically requires upgrading from 2 AWG to 4/0 AWG copper or aluminum equivalents. The conductors must be sized correctly to prevent voltage drop and overheating. Our team uses appropriate conductor types and sizes for each service upgrade.
Weatherhead and service mast updates often accompany service upgrades. Larger conductors require larger weatherheads, and aging service masts may need replacement for code compliance. Service masts must extend high enough above the roof to maintain code required clearances from windows and walking surfaces. Roofing coordination is sometimes needed when service masts pass through roofing materials. Risen Power Electric coordinates with roofing contractors when needed.
Panel installation during service upgrades involves removing the old panel, installing the new panel, and transferring all branch circuits. The new panel must have adequate breaker spaces for current circuits plus reasonable expansion capacity. Modern panels include AFCI and GFCI protection requirements that older panels often lacked. Branch circuits sometimes need updates during the panel transfer to meet current code. Our team handles all panel work as part of service upgrades.
Grounding system upgrades are required during service upgrades to meet current code. Ground rod installation, grounding electrode conductor replacement, and bonding updates all become part of comprehensive upgrades. Current code requires more extensive grounding than older standards. Concrete encased electrodes, water pipe bonding, and gas pipe bonding all need verification or installation. Risen Power Electric brings grounding systems up to current standards as part of every service upgrade.

Why Electrical Code Matters for Electrical Service Upgrade
Electrical code on service upgrades exists to ensure new installations meet current safety standards rather than perpetuating outdated practices. Risen Power Electric follows NEC Articles 230, 240, and 250 completely on every service upgrade. Service entrance requirements, overcurrent protection, and grounding all have specific current code requirements. Working clearance around service equipment, accessibility, and identification all matter for safety and future maintenance. Hiring a Master Electrician means upgrades meet current code completely rather than partially. Permits with the city of Greenville and coordination with utility companies are required for service upgrades. Insurance carriers expect properly performed service upgrades, and unpermitted work can complicate claims significantly. Real estate transactions also benefit from documented professional upgrades. Risen Power Electric is licensed and insured, providing protection on every service upgrade. The service entrance is the foundation of your electrical system, making code compliance essential.
Most Common Electrical Service Upgrade Questions
Service upgrades raise practical questions for homeowners considering this significant investment. The answers below address the most common questions we hear during upgrade consultations across Greenville and surrounding communities.
Service upgrade costs in Greenville typically range from $2,500 to $6,500 for residential projects. Upgrading from 100 amp to 200 amp service falls in the $2,500 to $4,500 range for most homes. Stepping up to 400 amp service costs more because of additional equipment and wiring requirements. Larger homes with longer service runs or specialty equipment cost more. Risen Power Electric provides written quotes that itemize each component and labor item.
Project complexity affects upgrade costs significantly. Underground service upgrades cost more than overhead because of trenching and conduit work. Service entrance relocations during upgrades add cost when needed. Some older homes require extensive work to bring grounding and bonding up to current code. Our team identifies all project components during initial assessment so quotes are accurate.
Permit fees with the city of Greenville and inspection coordination add modest costs to upgrade projects. Utility company coordination is typically performed without direct charges, but some service modifications may incur utility fees. Veterans receive a discount on every service upgrade project. The diagnostic fee is waived when we handle the work. Honest pricing without surprises is built into every quote we provide. Call us for a free phone estimate based on your specific situation.
Several indicators suggest service upgrade is appropriate or necessary. Older homes with 60 amp or 100 amp service often cannot support modern electrical loads. Central air conditioning, electric water heaters, electric ranges, and EV charging quickly exceed 100 amp service capacity. Frequent breaker trips on circuits with normal load suggest service capacity issues. Risen Power Electric performs load calculations to verify whether existing service meets current demand.
Major projects often trigger service upgrade needs. Home additions, kitchen remodels, and HVAC upgrades all add electrical load. Adding swimming pools, hot tubs, EV chargers, or solar systems frequently requires service upgrades. Insurance companies sometimes require upgrades for older homes. Building codes require service upgrades for certain types of remodel projects.
Visual inspection of the existing service provides clues about upgrade needs. Aging meter bases, weathered service masts, and damaged weatherheads all suggest upgrade opportunities. Federal Pacific Stab-Lok and Zinsco panels need replacement regardless of service capacity. Multiple sub panels added over time often indicate the original service is inadequate. Our team performs comprehensive evaluations that identify upgrade needs honestly. Recommendations focus on actual benefits rather than generating unnecessary work.
Service upgrade timelines vary based on scope and utility coordination. Most residential service upgrades complete in a single day of on site work. The actual installation takes six to ten hours, with power off for four to six hours during the upgrade. Risen Power Electric coordinates timing carefully to minimize customer inconvenience. Most homes have power restored before evening on upgrade day.
Permit and inspection coordination adds days to the overall project timeline. Permit applications typically process within a few days. Final inspections happen within a few business days of completion. Utility company coordination for the actual upgrade is scheduled several days in advance. Total project timeline from quote acceptance to final inspection is typically one to two weeks.
Larger upgrades with extensive site work take longer. Underground service installations require trenching that can take an extra day. Service entrance relocations and major site modifications extend timing. Multi unit residential or small commercial upgrades take longer than single family residential. Our team provides realistic timelines during the planning phase. Honest scheduling commitments mean we communicate any delays as soon as we know about them.
Yes, service upgrades require power outages while utility power is disconnected for the work. Most upgrades involve four to six hours without power during the actual installation. The utility company disconnects service before work begins and reconnects after completion and inspection. Risen Power Electric coordinates timing carefully to minimize the outage duration.
Planning for the outage helps customers manage the disruption. Refrigerated and frozen food should be moved to coolers or alternate storage. Medical equipment requiring power needs alternate arrangements. Work from home requirements may need to be adjusted for the upgrade day. Our team provides advance notice of expected timing so customers can plan accordingly.
Pets, children, and elderly family members may need special arrangements during the outage. Hot Texas weather makes air conditioning loss inconvenient, especially in summer. Some customers schedule upgrades for milder weather to reduce comfort impact. Our team helps customers plan around weather and personal schedule constraints. Veterans receive a discount on every service upgrade. Honest scheduling helps customers prepare appropriately for the work.
Service size requirements depend on total electrical load calculated using NEC Article 220 methods. Most modern homes need 200 amp service to support current loads safely. Smaller homes with limited HVAC and basic appliances might function with 150 amp service, though 200 amp provides better headroom. Larger homes, multi zone HVAC, electric heat, or EV charging often need 400 amp service.
The optional method calculation in NEC Article 220 works well for most residential applications. The calculation considers home square footage, fixed appliances, HVAC equipment, and special loads. Demand factors recognize that not all loads operate simultaneously. The calculated demand determines minimum service capacity. Risen Power Electric performs proper calculations rather than guessing at service size.
Future expansion plans should influence sizing decisions during upgrades. Adding EV chargers, hot tubs, pool equipment, or home additions all increase electrical demand. Sizing service for current needs plus reasonable future expansion prevents another upgrade in five or ten years. The cost difference between service sizes is moderate compared to upgrading later. Our team discusses future plans during the planning phase. Honest recommendations help customers size service appropriately for long term needs.
Service upgrades affect home value through several mechanisms. Homes with modern electrical service appraise better and sell faster than homes with outdated capacity. Buyers and home inspectors notice when service equipment is current, properly labeled, and code compliant. Outdated service becomes a negotiation point that often reduces sale prices.
Insurance and financing benefit from service upgrades on older homes. Some insurance companies refuse to cover homes with original electrical service from decades ago. Lenders sometimes require service upgrades before approving mortgages on older properties. Documented service upgrade work supports insurance applications and real estate transactions. Risen Power Electric provides written documentation of permitted, inspected work for these purposes.
Beyond direct property value impact, service upgrades enable other home improvements. Modern HVAC, EV charging, hot tubs, pool equipment, and additions all depend on adequate electrical service. Homes ready to support these additions are more attractive to buyers planning lifestyle changes. The investment in service upgrades returns value through enabling other improvements. Veterans receive a discount on every service upgrade project. Our team explains the benefits honestly without overstating value impact. Real estate agents experienced with our work often recommend upgrades to clients planning sales.
The panel and service entrance work together as a complete system, making them difficult to upgrade separately. Increasing service amperage usually requires panel replacement because older panels are sized for the original service capacity. The panel main breaker must match service amperage, and panel bus bars must handle the higher current. Mixing old panel with new service creates code violations and performance problems.
Some situations allow partial upgrades when the existing panel is relatively modern and properly sized. Replacing service entrance conductors and meter base while keeping an existing 200 amp panel is sometimes appropriate. The decision depends on panel age, condition, and brand. Federal Pacific and Zinsco panels need replacement regardless of capacity. Our team evaluates each situation honestly during initial assessment.
Comprehensive upgrades typically provide better long term value than partial upgrades. Newer panels include AFCI and GFCI protection requirements that older panels lack. Modern grounding requirements affect both service entrance and panel components. Doing the complete project at once costs less than coming back later for additional work. Risen Power Electric explains options clearly so customers make informed decisions. Honest recommendations consider both immediate cost and long term value.
Yes, Risen Power Electric handles utility company coordination as part of every service upgrade. We contact Oncor or your specific utility provider to schedule service disconnects and reconnects. Customers do not need to make separate arrangements with the utility. Our experience with utility coordination keeps projects moving efficiently.
Utility company response times affect project scheduling. Routine planned upgrades usually receive scheduling within a week or two. Storm season demands sometimes extend response times. Our team plans projects accounting for utility timing. Documentation submitted to utilities supports efficient processing.
Some service upgrades require additional utility approvals beyond simple disconnect and reconnect. Service amperage upgrades to capacities the existing service drop cannot support require utility company evaluation. Service relocations and major equipment changes also need utility review. Our team handles these approvals as part of project coordination. Honest scheduling commitments mean we communicate utility timing clearly. Veterans receive a discount on every service upgrade project. Call Risen Power Electric to start your service upgrade consultation.
